GRIM

Grim is a pixelated devilish adventure through re-telling of the famous story “Dantes Inferno, The Divine Comedy” . The game features a rich scene by scene soundtrack with wide ranges of genres. Most of the games enjoyment is found is gripping story, beautiful atmospheres, and connection to the main characters. Although combat exists in this game, it is not always the answer. Talk your way out of things or simply slice and dice until it is silent… either way you are just going deeper in to hell!

I have been the audio director, composer and developer on the team. Between Michael, Daniel and I met two to three times a week discussing plot, level design and emotional direction for the game. Most ideas came from hours of chatting over silly ideas that were seemingly impossible to implement. After a beer or two our amazing coder Michael would always somehow make it reality. Genuinely this team has amazed me with their passion to deliver exactly the story we have wanted, without cutting corners or settling for less than what we envisioned.

Grim tests your ability to stomach heart breaking decisions, all the while giving you the biggest feel good moments you could imagine. All the while picking up the pieces of your once living friends that is. Truly a memorable experience from start to finish.

COSMOS: ESCAPE FROM FREEDOM

Cosmos : Escape From Freedom is an intense narrative driven bullet hell, roguelike game by the genius one man who Pixel Plant Games. I worked side by side with Jakwab as Audio Director, Composer, Story writer and partial dev to the team. One might be commissioned such as this and think to make action back 8-bit fun tracks for the game but the it was so much more than that. Cosmos delves into a deep and personal issue most people addicted to the genre face and I wrote a soundtrack to reflect that. Every song has intense connection to the atmosphere, narrative flow, character progression and gameplay progression. I constantly pushed what I thought a 16-bit soundtrack was capable of to the point I build my own modular synth for the game. The game is soon going to be re-done to really show its full potential but I can say I’m very happy with what has already been made.

I think I made a very bold statement in making this game. That other 16-bit music composer lack a depth of emotion when it comes to their creations. I rarely hear an album as gripping to a story in other 8 bit / 16 bit compositions. I am very proud of this work.

I am looking forward to working more with this Dev in the future.

HOTEL NOIR: A CARDBOARD CAPER

Hotel Noir is the game that never was. It was fully demoed and backed but internal issues with the team made the game impossible to finish. I quite literally cried over how frustrated I was that this team was unable to work together.

Awful stuff aside, this album is such a classic in my discography. I fused a big band sound with blues while maintaining a childish game vibe. There is something to be said about the smooth blues and jazz I heard as a kid in games like Freddy Fish & Pajama Sam. I wanted to say thanks to the developers that opened my eyes to those genres at only 3-4 years of age with the album. I tried my best to sit down and believe my mom had just come home from office depot with another PC game for me to try. That I just popped it in and a slick blues intro plays making me hop up and down in my seat in excitement. On the opposite end, I’d fall asleep at night on the coach with my father old computer still playing the main menu song.

This album achieves a sound I believe to be lost and I genuinely wished to let kids in this generation experience it like I did as a child.

ASSAULT ON THE NECROSPIRE

Assault on the Necrospire is a Roguelike from late 2015. It was my first Game Ost I ever created and for it being my first year professionally composing I am quite happy with it. It was very run of the mill looping “gamey” sounding tracks. Nothing very impressive but not terrible. The game was never my thing and it was abandoned by the developer quite quick, I don’t have much to say about it.
